Managers, by working to help employees prevent, reduce and manage stress also perform an important mental health function: suicide prevention. Surprising as it may seem, the highest rates of suicide occur during the months of Spring. This is because persons who are experiencing clinical depression may not be so different from everyone else during the winter months when all of us get a little droopy. But when Spring rolls around everyone gets out there, active and perky - except the truly depressed. These persons feel isolated and more hopeless as the anguish increases. Increased stress, for many who are depressed, becomes the last straw in the burden of hopelessness and suicide begins to look like a bill consolidation loan student out, the only way out.

Business managers play a far more important role in the lives of those whose work they lead and manage than might appear at first glance.
